Between Glass & Green
Photographer: Peter Preis Model: Charleen Kloss @Smile Faces People Agency
There is something quietly compelling about a greenhouse—a place where nature is contained, but never entirely controlled.
In Between Glass & Green, photographer Peter Preis captures Charleen Kloss of Smile Faces People Agency within this delicate tension. Surrounded by tangled vines, tropical leaves, misted glass, and industrial framework, Charleen becomes both a contrast to the landscape and an extension of it.
The wardrobe is intentionally restrained. White appears luminous against the deep botanical greens, bringing softness and simplicity to an environment overflowing with texture. Later, black changes the visual language entirely, allowing Charleen to recede into the shadows as foliage moves from background to frame, partially concealing her from view.
The series finds its strength in these contrasts: white against green, black against shadow, human structure against organic growth, vulnerability against quiet confidence.
One of the most evocative moments places Charleen behind condensation-covered glass, her hand pressed toward the surface as her features dissolve into moisture and reflection. Elsewhere, she stands confidently among climbing vines, crouches within dense vegetation, or appears almost hidden behind oversized leaves.
Rather than treating the greenhouse simply as a location, Preis allows it to become another character in the story. Leaves interrupt compositions. Glass obscures rather than reveals. Metal railings cut through the organic landscape. Light filters imperfectly through the canopy.
The resulting photographs carry a subtle sense of mystery—as though we have entered a private world and encountered its subject somewhere between observation and discovery.
Between Glass & Green is ultimately an exploration of coexistence. The architecture attempts to contain nature, fashion introduces order and intention, yet the greenery continues to climb, spread, overlap, and reclaim the frame.
And somewhere between those boundaries, Charleen remains beautifully still.
